To use the Wilderness Camping Area:

Campfires are often an important part of camping, but the Fairfax County Park Authority does not allow visitors to bring or store their own firewood in any Fairfax County Park Authority park. You may only use firewood provided by the Park Authority.

Why this rule exists:

  • Firewood can carry nonnative, invasive insects and diseases.
  • Moving firewood from one place to another can spread pests and diseases that may kill trees and damage or change natural habitats.
  • Emerald ash borer, Asian longhorned beetle, oak wilt and other pests and diseases can be brought into parks in firewood.
  • Even if firewood looks healthy, it can still hide harmful insects or diseases.

Campfire time restrictions:

  • Under Virginia Code § 10.1-1142, campfires are prohibited between 12 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Feb. 1 through April 30.

No outside firewood is permitted to be used or stored on FCPA property. Only wood bought at FCPA campgrounds is permitted to be used or stored on FCPA property.
